William Drummond Stewart traveled with the American Fur Company expedition to the annual fur trappers' and traders' rendezvous.  The artist compiled an unparalleled visual record of the soon-to-be heavily traveled Oregon Trail, the Rocky Mountains, the fur trade, and the Indians of the area.  This work is important because in not only examines his work in the West but is the first to study his entire career.
